7. From the Trenches – PLANS AND PROGRESS

My mom was a messie too and she passed away last year so I have 2 houses to dejunk. I have 2 messie teenagers and I used to think that the kids were the problem before I read and started working on Sandra’s suggestions. Putting junk in Banker’s Boxes helped me a lot because out of sight, out of mind, soon I’ll have the will to file it, decide where it should go, or just throw it out! And in the meantime some glorious space has emerged that once was cluttered.

The Take-offs and Landings have helped a lot, too. Whenever I can get 1 or both of my kids to do a 10-minute tidy, I feel like I’ve accomplished a lot in just a little time and effort. It also reinforces the awareness for me of little jobs that can be done and teaches my kids that they can make a difference without me nagging them or assigning chores.
