How do I empty the boxes?
You’ve taken the steps to de-clutter your home quickly using the ideas in What do I do with all of this stuff?
Now, you want to start to empty all of those boxes! Never fear! Help is on the way.
The solution to this problem is carefully explained by Marsha Sims, an experiened hands-on organizer during this recent teleclass. We had lots of great questions asked and answered! If you missed the teleclass on How to empty the boxes it’s available now!
STEPS TO EMPTYING BOXES
Think to yourself, “If everything were perfect, what would be the function of each room?”
Draw a simple schematic or floorplan of the house.
Decide on the function of each room and jot that on the floorplan.
Remove everything that does not fit that function into the room whose function it does fit.
Bring in the boxes. Put boxes in the correct room if they contain all like items (all clothes, all books, etc.) If they are mixed, take individual items out of the box and put in the proper room.
Make decisions of YES, NO, or MAYBE. Keep YES, discard NO, address MAYBE choices.
Make sure you have adequate furniture, bookshelves, files, dressers to hold what you are going to keep. Place the items from the boxes where they belong! Discard the box!! Celebrate!!!
